($42) Deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of dark raspberry, pepper, flowers, smoke and animal fur. Creamy-sweet to the point of confectionery, yet the red berry and red cherryflavors are given shape by juicy acidity. Sweet but not at all sloppy. Finishes firmly tannic, with lingering sweetness.

A rich, syrupy style, with loads of blackberry and boysenberry jam flavors that are intense and concentrated. Remarkably deep and penetrating, the flavors finish with a strong burst of richness and complexity. The tannins are ripe and plush.

The 2003 Syrah Larner Vineyard is a hedonistic offering. Big, smoky, bacon fat, creme de cassis, violet, espresso roast, and toasty oak aromas soar from the glass of this complex, harmonious, opulent offering. Although it is impossible to resist, its abundant power, richness, and stuffing suggest it will age beautifully for 7-8 years.
