($57) Inky dark purple. Cassis, blackberry, dark plum, crystallized violet and lavender perfume on the heady nose. Enormously concentrated and rich, with deep black and redcurrant flavors framed by strong but harmonious tannins. The most powerful and strikingly concentrated wine I've ever had from Levet. |This vintage is impossible to compare to any other,| says Levet. |It's one of a kind.|

91-94 points ST IWC: |Perfumed, wild aromas of black plum, licorice, black pepper, bitter chocolate, gunflint and meat. Deep, sappy and atypically large-scaled for this wine, with superripe flavors of black raspberry, currant, licorice, bacon fat and minerals. Boasts plenty of baby fat, even if it's not quite as expressive today as the classique Finishes long, aromatic and peppery, with lovely lift and big but lush tannins that coat the entire mouth. This should continue to evolve very slowly in 600-liter barrels, and will almost certainly require a good eight to ten years of bottle aging. Should be among the stars of the vintage, in the nobly rustic style of this producer.| (Jan/Feb 05)
