($56; just assembled) Good deep ruby. Knockout syrah aromas of black raspberry, bacon fat, asphalt, gunflint and smoked meat. Extraordinarily sweet and silky, with flamboyantly ripeflavors of black raspberry and smoked meat. This too is quite high in alcohol at 15.8% but has the material to carry it off. Finishes with fully ripe tannins.

The sensational 2003 Syrah Reva Vineyard may be the finest example of this cuvee Alban has yet produced. Nearly endless depth as well as an extraordinarily flamboyant bouquet of blackberries, truffles, acacia flowers, and sweet tar emerge from this broad, opulent, full-bodied, incredibly rich Syrah. It is a stunning wine to drink over the next 12-15 years.

A rich, massive, densely flavored Syrah, packed with syrupy currant, wild berry and boysenberry fruit, with dashes of beef, pepper and spice and a hint of cedar and earth. While the tannins are big and muscular, they have a gentleness that lets the flavors gain complexity on the finish. 1,440 cases made.

As soon as we opened the bottle aroma of currant and blue fruit rose from the bottle. A little hot in the very beginning but soon settled down to be a very delightful wine. A little on the jammy side.

Aussie style fro CA with very forward vibrant fruit led by blackberries and hint of raspberry on the finish. Long lasting, a real treat.

Alban Vineyards is a California wine estate producing various Rhone style blends and varietal wine. The winery is located in Edna Valley, near Arroyo Grande in the southern corner of San Luis Obispo County.

Starting in 1985, John Alban planted grapes for other people until he bought an estate in 1989. With a focus on creating wines made from Rhone Valley varieties, Alban became one of the pioneers in the Rhone Rangers movement, and is considered one of the most influential American Rhone producers.

Within a 250-acre (100 ha) area, the vineyard area extends 60 acres (24 ha), and is planted with varieties Syrah, Viognier and Roussanne. Grenache and Roussanne are also sourced from vineyards located in the warmer Paso Robles AVA.

Among the vineyard designate wines produced are the Lorraine Vineyard, Reva Vineyard Syrah and Seymour's Vineyard Syrah. Alban also produces Pandora, a blend of Grenache and Syrah, and a botrytized dessert wine.
