Ripe, powerful style brims with blackberry, cherry and zingy spice character, finishing with lively acidity to balance the intense range of flavors. Has tremendous intensity without going overboard on the style. It's harmonious and extraordinarily long. 210 cases made.

Virtually perfect, the 2002 Shiraz Ares (100% Shiraz from an ancient Barossa vineyard) spent 8 months in old oak, and 12 months in new French wood. Inky/blue/black to the rim, with an extraordinary nose of smoked meats, camphor, blackberries, creme de cassis, and a notion of bacon fat in the background, this is great stuff. Full-bodied with a sensational texture as well as stunning purity, balance, and length (the finish lasts nearly a minute), Michael Twelftree believes it has at least 20 years of cellaring potential, and I see no reason to disagree. Like many of the finest wines of South Australia, it is accessible now.

Wow! One of the most amazing and memorable wines I've every had. I first tasted this wine about 3 years ago while dining with a friend at Fifth Floor in San Francisco. I was amazed then and finally had to find a couple of bottles of my own (@ abt $145 in 2011). I couldn't help but drinking one with my favorite wine partner (my gf). It was incredible. As Robert Parker says, it is |virtually perfect and great stuff|. It is 100% Shiraz from an ancient Barossa vineyard. Not sure that's the reason why it is so special, but it truly is. This wine proves that you get what you pay for. In my opinion, this wine will change your perspective on life and good wine. It has an extraordinary nose; rich and inky in the glass; robust and full-bodied with a luxurious texture and soothing mouth-feel; great balance and a wonderfully long finish. Absolutely loved it.

The "two hands" are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized regions within Australia. In 2000 they started with just 17 tons of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions. From the beginning the wines were very well received at home and abroad, with a healthy stream of reviews, culminating in 2004 with Robert Parker pronouncing Two Hands as "the finest negociant operation south of the equator."
