($38) Ruby-red. Liqueur-like aromas of red berries and truffle. Sweet flavors of raspberry, truffle, spices and game are kept fresh by the wine's slightly dry berry skin edge. Finishes with light tannins and a late burst of strawberry and raspberry.

Grown in pure sand, the 2002 Grenache Christine's Vineyard (from a vineyard with vines averaging 35 years) is a 100% Grenache cuvee aged in neutral French oak prior to being bottled unfiltered. Its gorgeous, Pinot Noir-like perfume of sweet cherry liqueur intermixed with strawberries, minerals, pepper, and earth is followed by a wine of undeniable elegance, richness, and intensity. Drink this stunning Grenache now and over the next 4-6 years.

  • More than half of all Australian wine production takes place in the South Australia region—home to the Shiraz-specializing Barossa Valley as well as revered Riesling zones Clare Valley and Eden Valley. South Australia is too large and diverse to generalize about climate or topography, with both cooler coastal areas and warmer inland sections—but rainfall is generally low throughout and drought is a constant concern.
