2002 Etude Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
UNITED STATES / CALIFORNIA / NAPA
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91
(includes about 20% co-fermented cabernet franc) Good full medium ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, tar, menthol and licorice. Higher-toned and higher-pitched than the estate cabernet, with flavors of blueberry, violet and minerals framed by juicy acidity. Here the firm tannins are a bit less integrated, at least in the early going.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2005Wine Spectator | Rating: 94
A seamless effort that's pure, rich and elegant, well-focused on ripe currant, black cherry and plum flavors joined by touches of anise, black licorice and cedar. Most striking on the finish, where the texture is supple and the finish sails on.Author: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 95
The blockbuster 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa came from two sources, the Morisoli Vineyard in St. Helena and the Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford (the source for the famous Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon). This fabulous, dense ruby/purple wine is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It exhibits a deep creme de cassis nose with hints of charcoal, graphite and spring flowers. Full-bodied, rich and youthful, it appears to have at least 20 years of life left in it. This is a wine that clearly flew under the radar, and if it can still be found and the provenance is excellent, it is definitely a big-time buy.Author: Robert Parker

Yet again 2002 blows me away. This is drinking, to me, well beyond its years and has plenty to go. The tannins have mellowed out to fine dusty silk. Plum, mocha and cassis with a sweet, creamy touch of well integrated oak are the perfume and the palate.Author: Koby
Etude was established in 1982 by wine consultant Tony Soter to produce high quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir sourced from top growers. The brand embarked on an estate-focused philosophy in 1999 with the purchase of a former pasture at the base of Sonoma Mountain. The sustainably-produced wines include Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and five estate-grown Pinot Noirs. Additionally, their appellation-focused Cabernet Sauvignon program offers selections from St. Helena, Oakville and Rutherford, as well as a Napa Valley bottling. Winemaker is Jon Priest.
