($62) Saturated medium ruby. Wild, inviting, highly complex aromas of black raspberry, candied blackberry, woodsmoke, pepper, spices, truffle and meat. Silky on entry, then smooth and strong in the middle palate, with spicy, penetrating berry flavors that are simultaneously sappy and creamy. The wine's powerful, palate-staining fruit is nicely supported by very fine tannins. The finish is perked up by a peppery nuance.

Lithe and beautifully focused, a gorgeous red with a sense of real elegance to the pure blueberry, plum and subtle white pepper shadings, persisting into a long, refined finish.

The meaty, earthy-styled 2002 Syrah Moritz Vineyard boasts fabulous concentration, wonderful density, a saturated purple color, and notes of creosote, acacia flowers, blackberries, and cassis. It comes across as an Australian version of a hypothetical blend of 50% Cornas and 50% Hermitage.
