Firm, juicy and ripe, packed with black cherry and raspberry fruit and layered with smoky, earthy notes that eventually win out on the finish. 1,370 cases made.

I adore the spicy, dark berry-scented 2002 Pinot Noir Ridgecrest Vineyards. Combining power and density with grace and purity, it regales the palate with massive quantities of blackberries, dark cherries, cassis, and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied and ample, it reveals a wonderful juxtaposition between purity/freshness and ripeness/richness.

Beautiful red ruby. A very high-toned, unmistakably pinot nose that is a good deal more serious and complex, introduces sweet, delicious, precise medium weight flavors that possess a long, mouth coating finish. The alcohol is noticeable but not nearly as much as the percentage would suggest and the finish is not dominated by it.

  • From small-scale hobby to major career endeavor, Harry Peterson-Nedry has taken his winemaking from one end of the spectrum to the other. In 1980, he made his first move, planting 37-acre Ridgecrest Vineyards in Oregon's new Ribbon Ridge AVA. A decade later, he took another major step, founding Chehalem with partners Bill and Cathy Stoller (owners of Stoller Vineyards) and expanding his estate holdings over the course of the next five years. Peterson-Nedry actively applies his degree in Chemistry to his winemaking, experimenting and tinkering with different variables on his fruit every vintage to produce consistently high quality wine. All fruit is estate-grown; reds include Pinot Noir and a bit of Gamay and the whites are Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Blanc.
