A remarkably complex and successful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Petite Sirah. Offers a wonderful range of flavors, from the core of currant and blackberry to hints of cedar, sage, anise and nutmeg. Tightly wound and firmly tannic, with a long, intricate finish. Needs short-term cellaring.

The deep ruby-hued 2002 Proprietary Red, a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Sangiovese, and 15% Petite Sirah, reveals a sweet perfume of white chocolate, kirsch, licorice, earth, and dried herbs. There is an elegant attack as well as medium-bodied, concentrated flavors, but an angular, austere, tannic finish kept my score from going even higher. I suspect this offering will taste better if drunk with food. Consume it over the next 7-8 years.
