(from young Musigny vines) Medium red. Explosive, perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry and mocha, with a briary nuance. Wonderfully round on entry, then a bit unforthcoming in the middle palate. But offers rare sweet for the vintage, along with superb clarity of raspberry and mineral flavor. Finishes impressively long and subtle, with very fine tannins. Delicious wine, and a relative value in the context of these 2001s.

Good full red. Roasted red fruits, dark cherry and truffle on the nose. Boasts a rather wild, concentrated core of red fruits, spices and truffle, along with a faint vegetal element. Finishes with a serious dusting of tannins and building length. Winemaker FranAois Millet described 2001 as |a rebel vintage, but a rebel for a good cause. It wasn't well considered at the beginning but is better now.| It was a cool, red-fruit style of year, he added. |The energy of the wine was made in the early springtime, as in 2011 and 2007, but the summer was lousy| and the estate eliminated 50% of the fruit in a green harvest. Still, Millet prefers 2001 to 2002 |because 2002 is more politically correct.| - Stephen Tanzer

Sweet, candied black cherries burst from the glass of the medium to dark ruby-colored 2001 Chambolle-Musigny. Supple, sexy, and lush, it bastes the palate with sensual waves of blueberries, wild raspberries, and dark cherries. Plump, yet deep and lively, this is an outstanding wine jam-packed with fruit that lingers throughout its impressively long finish.

This is slowing transforming itself into a really lovely wine of weight, depth and intensity with a richly detailed, expressive nose and impressively pure and harmonious flavors that offer superb clarity of expression. This is a classical Burgundy lover's dream with linearity, purity, harmony and simply knock out delineation plus a subtle complexity that is finesse personified. Consistent notes and this is one of those wine that has such balance that it can easily be enjoyed now or held for further development. Personally, I would advise holding it for another year or two but as I note, it can certainly be drunk now with pleasure.

Bottle no. 02546. Relatively deep and opaque appearance with little sign of maturity. Initially reticent and close to the vest. Over an hour and a half, intoxicating Chambolle perfume began to unfold. Palate impression of great purity, a concise expression of '01 vintage character, and the nobility of the site. Finish resonates like the bells of l'Eglise St. Barbe. Tremendous potential. From 2015.

Comte de Vogue is often considered the greatest wine estate in Chambolle-Musigny. It traces its history back to 1450 and amazingly, after 20 generations, the same family still runs the show. The domaine owns 7.25 hectares of the Le Musigny vineyard; these average 40 years old and are labeled Vieilles Vignes. The property also includes smaller holdings of Bonnes-Mares and Premier Cru Chambolle-Musigny. The blending of tradition and modernity in winemaking has resulted in wines that are revered by critics and wine lovers around the world.
