Really fantastic. Absolutely breathtaking, with blackberry, incense, dried fruit and spice. Full-bodied, with loads of black pepper and spice, refined tannins and a superlong finish. You have to love this wine. A playback of the stunning 1997. Merlot. 500 cases made.

The 2001 Redigaffi, an exceptionally deep ruby with an exotic nose of chocolate covered cherries and plum jam along with additional notes of coconut and roasted coffee, has the tell-tale super richness and density of perfectly ripe Merlot, lush, enveloping, plush, and concentrated.

100% Merlot barrel fermented in 100% new French oak for 16 months and then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Every vintage of this wine has blown me away with its incredible concentration coupled with nearly impossible grace. The 2001 is no different. Dark blood red colored with lots of thickly pigmented slow moving legs. A huge nose of anise, minerals, new oak, vanilla, and minty dark fruits. Deeply concentrated with high acidity and thick tannins. So much power that the wine can easily handle its formidable structure although more masculine then some vintages. The finish lasts for well more than a minute with tons of minty fruit churning over the thick oak flavors.

Located in Suvereto, a small medieval Tuscan town on the south coast of Bolgheri, Tua Rita is best known for its 100% Merlot, Redigaffi, which earned a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker in the 2000 vintage. However, all the bottlings from this 55-acre estate deserve attention.

Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti bought their property in 1984 and planted 45 acres of the clay and silt soil to Cabernet and Merlot. Stefano Chioccioli presides over winemaking and produces just 3,400 cases annually, making Tua Rita wines some of the most difficult finds in Italy.
