2001 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Wine Spectator | Rating: 91
Aging very nicely, this is smooth, supple and complex, in great drinking space. Ripe currant, wild berry, mocha, dill, cedar and tobacco are full-bodied, gaining on the finish. 2001 California Cabernet blind retrospective (June 2011). Drink now through 2017. 30,000 cases made.Author: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 90
Fully mature and made in the Silver Oak style of lavishly oaked, spicy, earthy, smoky wines, the dense ruby/purple-colored, full-bodied 2001 exhibits a sweet, juicy, seductive, All-American, bombastic style. Although not for everybody, it will continue to drink well for another decade.Author: Robert Parker

Decanted for about 30 minutes. Nose full of leather & pencil shavings and flavors of white pepper & dried fruit. Nice legs, color with no tannins but body was very thin. Possible this one was past its prime. Disappointing.Author: cwilliams73Self | Rating:

Still abit young but continued opening up very nicely after the first hour. Still there was lots of glycerin combined with soft and slightly sweet tannins. Dark fruit and slightly earthy. Went along well with the filet mignon, salmon, halibut and dessert !Author: Carlo LSelf | Rating: 87

California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
