($50) Bright red-ruby. Aromas of red berries and sassafras are overshadowed by notes of tar and charred oak. Offers good texture, with flavors of dark berries, sassafras, leather and tobacco, along with a tarry, chewy wood element. Finishes with somewhat gritty, drying, oak-powered tannins and plenty of spice from the wood.

Slightly better, but hardly an inspirational effort, the 2001 The Oracle is an equal part blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers cedarwood, roasted herb and black currant notes, medium body and a finish that is significantly shorter than most 2001's.

Ultimately simple, with earth, leather and gamy scents that rob the currant and berry flavors of their freshness. This was the better of four bottles. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot.

A brilliant violet hue with warm aromas of chocolate, new wood, muted plum, and light spice. Better in the mouth with lots of smooth buttery wood, plum, and dark cherry flavors. Quite nice but the wine?s tannin and acid are a little high. The blend consists of one third each of Cabernet, Merlot, and Franc that was aged in French oak (50% new) for 20 months.
