  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 93

Deep ruby-red. Sappy, pungent aromas of black raspberry, cassis and bitter chocolate. Sweet, dense and spicy, with layered dark fruit and chocolate flavors. Very sexy, showy wine with superb texture and fruit. This has more fat for its tannins than the Brulees. Finishes firm and long.

Soy sauce and black cherries are found in the aromatic profile of the tight 2001 Vosne-Romanee Cros Parentoux. It displays excellent intensity to its black fruit and ink-flavored personality. Regrettably, this wine's compressed, tannic finish kept it from earning a higher score.

Soaring black and red fruit notes and incredibly spicy and complex aromas of earth, anise, soft espresso and pinot extract lead to fresh, stunningly precise and strikingly intense, medium full flavors and flat out great length. Mouth coating, dusty and perfectly balanced and if this adds a bit of weight over the coarse of the additional ‚levage, this could very well surprise on the upside though it already is one gorgeous wine. Classic Vosne spiciness with cool aromatics of blue and red fruits. Very well balanced. On the palate, the wine is austere, with great depth and grand cru-like intensity. Shows the character of the terroir in spades. Really quite wonderful.

Politics has always played a significant role in the history of French wine, for better or worse, and that is especially true for Domaine Meo-Camuzet. Parliamentarian Etienne Camuzet began buying up prime blocks in Burgundy's most prized vineyards in the early 1900s, and from this land winemaker Jean-Nicolas Meo continues the domaine's tradition of producing acclaimed wines. The family's holdings read like a "who's who" of the Cote d'Or; they have plots in Richeboug, Clos de Vougeot, Corton Clos Rognet, and Echezeauz, in addition to a longer list of Premier Cru and Village-level sites. Balance is the key for Meo, both in the vineyard and the cellar. With Henri Jayer consulting on winemaking, Jean-Nicolas creates domaine wines of excellence that reflect a true "sense of place." Meo-Camuzet also has a wine merchant arm, bearing the title Meo-Camuzet Frere & Soeurs, which sources fruit from Fixin, Marsannay, Chambolle, and Nuits-Saint-Georges.
