($41-$45) Pale-medium gold. Aromas of fruit salad, honey and herbs. High-pitched and slightly hard-edged, with penetrating peach and spicy oak flavors. Rather powerful and juicy but not especially fleshy or sweet. Currently a bit unyielding on the finish and in need of time. May well be better than it's showing today.

Golden-colored, with extreme aromas of honey, candied lemons and mandarin oranges. Full-bodied, very sweet and concentrated. It goes on and on. Thick and rich. Loads of spicy, almost hot botrytis character. 3,330 cases made.

Rich, broad and very, very full. Relatively low in acidity and faintly raisiny, but no shortage of botrytis. Big build. Very rich and creamy.

The de Malle 2001 has a soft apricot and marmalade scented bouquet with just a touch of burnt toffee. The palate is ripe on the entry with a hint of spice. It is quite compact but with good weight in the mouth, though it cuts away abruptly on the marmalade-tinged finish and consequently I have to shave a couple of points off my score.

Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, this vast estate covers nearly 200 hectares of land. Built in the beginning of the 17th century, today the chateau is a listed as a historical monument,

The vineyards are comprised of 27 ha of Sauternes AOC land and 23 ha of Graves AOC land which lay in a continuous stretch around the perimeter of the chateau. The land is slightly hilly, with subsoils of silica, sand, and clay-gravel. The Chateau de Malle is classified as a Sauternes Grand Cru Classe, with characteristic aromas of honey, almonds and candied apricot. In Graves, the M. de Malle is a dry white wine matured in new oak barrels.
