($317) Vibrant, pure aromas of lime blossom and powdered stone. A bath of powdered and liquid minerals in the mouth; not especially fruity today but shows superb cut and grip. Vibrant, firmly structured grand cru, with a long, stony aftertaste that calls to mind a top Alsace riesling.

Liquid minerals, spices, and hints of fresh herbs can be found in the aromatic profile of the light to medium-bodied 2001 Chevalier-Montrachet. A very pretty wine, it reveals outstanding depth, flesh, and purity to its mineral and herb-laced personality

Pale bright straw. Honeyed nose with much more than one extra year?s evolution on the nose. Not quite the concentration of the 2002 on the finish and acid dominated with a grainier, less creamy texture than the 2002 but very pure. Very slightly austere but very fine and very typical Chevalier. Helped by the Leflaive polish.

Incredibly fine, mineral-suffused fruit with a pronounced chalk and stone quality plus an intensity that is simply astonishing. Dense, fine, rich, delineated, powerful, elegant and superbly focused and delivering outstanding complexity on the stunningly long backend and all the while displaying dazzling purity, this wine has it all. Absolutely gorgeous.

"If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
