A trace of wood frames very expansive and perfumed black fruit as well as big, dense, concentrated, complex flavors that exhibit plenty of volume plus a persistent, sappy and structured backend that offers fine finishing balance. Excellent quality that should age for every bit of a decade and a half.

($170) Deep red, the most saturated of these 2001s. Reduced, sauvage nose hints at black cherry and game. Dense and thick, with lovely sweetness and inner-mouth perfume. Conveys an impression of energy without excess weight. A wine of outstanding verve, finishing with substantial but noble tannins and superb persistence. An Echezeaux of real grand cru class.
