The 2001 Tokaji Aszu 5-Puttonyos has a relatively light, uncomplicated bouquet that lacks a little Aszu character. It seems a little one-dimensional compared to the superior 2008. The palate is better, with a tangy, marmalade-tinged entry, good acidity with a sharp, citric finish that needs a little more persistency. Not bad, but there are better Aszu wines out there.
Deep golden yellow colouring, open nose of honey and a little bit of burned toast/brioche, and some citrus notes present as well. Good mouthfeel on the palate, not cloying in any way as the citrus comes through. A light styled dessert wine
