Rich, thick and commanding, a powerful wine that drips with ripe cherry, currant and oaky-spicy flavors. Finishes with polished tannins and a deft touch of bay leaf. 2,900 cases made.

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve exhibits an inky saturated purple color as well as a glorious perfume of melted chocolate, creme de cassis, cedar, and espresso. Terrific texture, low acidity, and ripe, well-integrated tannin give the overall impression of a seamless, opulent wine destined to be drunk young, yet capable of lasting 7-10 years.

This wine needs time but already shows plenty of fruit and rustic cassis and muted cherry flavors.

More than half of all Australian wine production takes place in the South Australia region—home to the Shiraz-specializing Barossa Valley as well as revered Riesling zones Clare Valley and Eden Valley. South Australia is too large and diverse to generalize about climate or topography, with both cooler coastal areas and warmer inland sections—but rainfall is generally low throughout and drought is a constant concern.
