A true-to-form Martha's Vineyard. Enticing chocolate-covered cherry, berry and mint give a complex, distinctive flavor profile. Sleek, elegant and long on the finish, where the flavors turn juicy. 2001 California Cabernet blind retrospective (June 2011). Drink now through 2020. 4,601 cases made.

This was a spectacular performance from this hallowed vineyard as well as one of Napa Valley's great historic terroirs. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it reveals a still youthful personality and will benefit from another 5-7 years of bottle age. An opaque purple color is followed by aromas of graphite, creme de cassis, flowers and background earth as well as spice. The old eucalyptus-filled aromatics of a young Martha's Vineyard are nowhere to be found as the 2001 is dominated by fruit and earth. Full-bodied and powerful with superb integration of wood, tannin, acidity and alcohol, this large-scaled red is capable of three or more decades of cellaring. It is unquestionably a youthful classic, but it requires patience from its owners. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2035.

Very deep purple. Some lift and luscious fruit. Very sweet and full and minerally. Some evolution. Big and blustering with resolved tannins and a hint of dustiness. Not formulaic. Is there more Merlot in this than most? Blind guess: mountain. Revealed location: valley.

Big, dense, mint, dark choco, cherry. Well aged, beginning to mature. Tons of life left. Well balanced. Long finish. Beauty right now.

Crimson in color. Medium rim variation. Medium legs. Medium/Full bodied. Satin-like texture. Long finish. Wonderful bouquet with a delicious taste of mint on the mid-palate. This wine is at a lovely point right now and ready to be enjoyed

Superbowl party, we tasted 9 wines in all. Excellent time at the Grumm's! Twomey was the last of the evening, color, body was good, hard to know how good it was, everyone enjoyed it and it appeared to have nice fruit and light oak flavors. The Heitz Napa 1999 and 2001 were nice, really amazing how well they hold up. Good color and body, light fruit flavors, the 1999 was a little lighter on the finish.
