($42) Good deep red. Expressive, wild nose hints at red fruits, leather and game; less lively than the 2002. Juicy on entry, then rather tough and a bit youthfully awkward in the middle palate. Today the wine's acids are in opposition to its fairly tough tannins. This needs two or three years of patience.

(contains around 10% premier cru juice from Les Combottes and Fuees). Earthy and rustic fruit yet the direct, linear firm flavors are quite pure and this finishes with an edgy character and solid acidity. A really beautiful wine that has come together even better than I originally thought that it would.

Very deep crimson, quite direct fruit aromas. Slight agricultural overlay but no shortage of gentle matiŠre. Should make a good bottle eventually. (cask sample)

Well-made, with impressive length and flavors. I like the pure black and red berry character that mingles with toasted spices, vanilla and cream notes. Lingering, balanced, fruity and succulent finish.

Georges Roumier married his way into some of the best vineyard holdings in the Cote d'Or, back in 1924. He gained a wife from Chambolle and the vineyards as part of the dowry. Grand Cru blocks in Bonnes-Mares, Clos de Vougeot, Musigny, and Corton Charlemagne produce highly sought-after wines year after year. Christophe Roumier, Georges' son, has run the domaine since 1982, when he took over management of his family's 14.2 hectares of vines. He is regarded as one of the finest winemakers in the Cote de Nuit, one who strives to create authentic representations of each of his diverse plots.
