Bold and structured red. Dark color; black licorice, raspberry and mineral character and hints of dried flowers; full-bodied, with spicy fruit and undertones of black pepper. Chewy finish. This is fantastic. 5,000 cases made.

The 2001 Serpico, impenetrable and inky, staggeringly rich in both aroma and flavor, offers ultra-ripe but perfectly fresh berry fruit, cloves, cinnamon, and chocolate, and mouth-coating, deep-pile tactile sensations which combine iron power and a enveloping, voluptuous texture, infinitely deep and long. I would be amazed if this wine did not last thirty years.
Excellent food wine. Good acid structure remains and the fruit is well-balanced, with a long finish and back palate hint of red fruit, even though it is obviously more dark fruit on the front of the palate. Pairs so well with food-- tri-tip, pasta, red sauces-- an easy choice if you are ever at a restaurant and need something to go well with a variety of dishes...

Finally coming around. Big and juicy with a solid tannic foundation. Food pairings better also have big and bold flavors.

Like 2015, this wine went out with a bang. Of the wines drunk this evening this one had the greatest combination of elegance and power. Immediately on pop the wine crescendo'd in the mouth filing it with rich dark red and black fruits, mocha, a touch of spices. Probably would have sang even more with air but what a terrific effort, delicious with rich meat, even with cheeses/charcuterie.

One of the best expressions of the Aglianico grape, at its peak. Perfect with grilled Italian sausages.
