Dark in color with intense blackberry, chocolate, and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied and ultravelvety, with tannins that caress your palate. Vanilla, chocolate and berry. Goes on for minutes. 4,830 cases made.

Medium-deep bright ruby. Beautiful, profound nose of sweet ripe cherry, pipe tobacco, almond and raspberry jam. Ripe, suave and juicy, with sweet flavors similar to the aromas, this is an absolutely seamless wine with lively harmonious acidity on a suave, never-ending finish. Though extremely concentrated, this is a uniquely refined Brunello with wonderfully suave smooth, classy tannins.

The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is Neri's modern-styled Brunello. It is made from vines planted in the southern part of the zone and aged in small oak barrels. It displays a darker, almost saturated color and notable concentration with masses of sweet dark fruit, smoke and licorice flavors that flow onto the palate with exceptional length and balance in a powerful, brooding style.

Just coming into it's own, this dark cherry/blackberry & oak flavored treasure has multi-layers that unfolded during the evening. No wonder it made Wine of the Year. Look forward to enjoying the remaining bottles over the next 10-15 years. Wow!

Robust, as good as the last time I had it a few years ago--though now that the Italian authorities' findings have been released, I wouldn't be surprised if this has Cab or Syrah in it (sad if true, but still a wonderful wine).

The Casanova di Neri farm began in 1971 when Giovanni Neri bought a large estate within the territory of Montalcino. Over the years their continuing goal has been the search for and purchasing of land which they believe to be optimal for growing high quality grapes. The result is that today they have about 36 hectares of vineyards divided between four quite distinct areas: il Pietradonice in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, le Cetine in Sant'Angelo in Colle, il Cerretalto and il Fiesole near the farmhouse of the same name facing Montalcino.

Recent accolades include a perfect WS 100-point score for the 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto and WS Wine of the Year honors for the 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova.
