BV's flagship offering, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve reveals a saturated ruby/purple color along with an intriguing perfume of black currants, lead pencil shavings, loamy soil, and wood. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, and elegant, this Bordeaux-styled Cabernet finishes a bit short. The aromatics suggest a 90-point wine, and the flavors and finish something in the upper eighties. While it will not rank alongside any of the great BV Private Reserves from the fifties, sixties, seventies, or early eighties, it is a positive development for this historic estate.

This wine features rich, loamy Cabernet flavors built around a core of currant, anise, sage and tar. The tannins are aggressive, clamping down tight on the palate, ending with a chalky taste that gets worse with time. 20,000 cases made.

Amazing wine. One of the finest.

Dark, black-ruby color. The aromas reflect classic |Rutherford dust| notes of black cherry, loamy mineral-earth tones, and licorice, along with fine new oak vanilla highlights. Medium full-bodied, with deep cherry-mineral, currant 'anise flavors, this vintage has a fine veneer of tannins combined with good acidity to support 10-15 years aging. Rich, supple fruit softens the texture. The sweet fragrance and taste of vanilla from the new oak add measurable length and structure in the finish. A fine wine to drink young with grilled steaks, roast leg of lamb with shallots, or a ripe wedge of Fontina or aged Vermont cheddar cheese.

    Perfect
    Author: Rutiger
In 1900, when Georges de Latour's wife, Fernande, first laid eyes on the land that would become their original Rutherford vineyard, she named it "beau lieu," or "beautiful place." Shortly thereafter, de Latour sold his thriving cream of tartar business, bought the four-acre ranch and founded Beaulieu Vineyard with the vision of making Napa Valley wines that would rival those of his native France.Today the winery continues to turn to innovative practices to craft wines in a bold, classic style. They have become a leader in clonal research, and the BV Clone Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon wines are highly acclaimed. Most recently a new state-of-the-art winery was completed within one of the original buildings. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Winery utilizes the latest technology in combination with time-honored traditions for the production of this exceptional, wine-the longtime benchmark of Rutherford Cabernet.
