($100) Bright, deep red. Nose dominated by milk chocolate and smoky oak. Lush, chocolatey and smooth on entry, with sweet flavors of raspberry and oak. Then a bit green and hollow in the middle palate, despite a smooth texture. Lacks a bit for weight. Tannins turn dry and a somewhat green on the end.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2005Wine Spectator | Rating: 88
Starts out with creamy, milk chocolaty oak leading to a core of currant and plum-flavored fruit, offering richness, depth and complexity, finishing with a plush, concentrated aftertaste. Those who like well-oaked Cabernets will find this most appealing. 25,000 cases made.Author: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 88
The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color in addition to a big, cocoa-scented nose, a sweet entry on the palate, medium body, and a short, abrupt finish. A modest success for the vintage, it is a friendly, easy-to-drink effort that should be consumed over the next 7-8 years.Author: Robert Parker

Cherry delight with touches of oak and dark fruit.Drink Dates: 2006-2009Author: BeauSelf | Rating: 91
Fantastic with roasted walnuts (they need to be roasted to mellow the tannins) topped with goat cheese and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Bit of a weird pairing but trust me, it's awesome.Author: coltercSelf | Rating: 88

California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
