($100; 90% cabernet; the '99 was a 50/50 blend of cabernet and merlot) Deep, bright ruby. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, cassis, black raspberry, minerals, tar, dark chocolate and smoke. Densely packed wine with plum, currant and tobacco flavors complemented but not overwhelmed by sweet oak tones. Boasts sound acidity and a restrained sweetness. Finishes with excellent persistence and big, tongue-dusting, granular tannins that coat the front teeth. Like Bob Foley's wines at Pride Family Vineyards, this is uncommonly strong in the context of the 2000 vintage.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2003Wine Spectator | Rating: 91
A sleek, rich, elegant style, with a complex array of anise, black cherry, flashy mocha-scented oak, currant and coffee, finishing with a long, complex aftertaste. 400 cases made.Author: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 96
Potentially the |Cabernet Sauvignon of the vintage,| Foley's 2000 Claret (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot) is an amazing effort for this irregular vintage. It possesses a saturated black/purple color, great elegance and richness as well as amazing precision and extraordinary purity. Aromas of smoke, licorice, incense, black currant liqueur, and spice box are followed by a full-bodied, satiny smooth wine with a 45+ second finish. This incredible 2000 is a tribute to Bob Foley's talents.Author: Robert Parker

Exceptional from magnum. Fruity and jammy-- lots of blackberryAuthor: PLevensohnSelf | Rating: 92
The pricing of this wine is insane. The wine is very tight with dark tinged cassis and licorice flavors coupled with boatloads of tannin. I don'tbelieve this wine will ever successfully shed its tannic shell thus my rating.Drink Dates: 2012-2018Author: Daniel B
Winemaker Robert Foley began his winemaking career in 1977, working at Heitz Winery before becoming founding winemaker at Markham, where he developed the style of Merlot that helped make the variety a mega-trend in the 1980s. Following his success at Markham, Foley is perhaps best known for his tenure with Pride and Paloma. He still keeps a coterie of clients including School House, Switchback Ridge and Hourglass. He founded Robert Foley Vineyards in 1999 and was named Food & Wine Magazine's Winemaker of the Year in 2007.
