  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 89

($95) Bright saturated ruby. Deeply oaky aromas of cassis, bitter chocolate and pear. Sappy but slightly hard-edged flavors of cassis, herbs and flowers. A gripping, rather oaky cabernet that could use a bit more sweetness and give. The wine's very firm tannins call for at least a few years of patience.

  • Wine Advocate | Rating: 92

A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2000 Reserve displays an immensely spicy nose. Broad, intense, and concentrated, this is a powerful, medium-bodied wine packed with cassis and blackberries. Structured yet fresh and long in the finish, it should be enjoyed over the next 7-9 years

  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 94

Amazingly subtle, supple and rich in flavor, offering a magnificent cascade of blackberry, currant, persimmon and subtle spices that wangle in a touch of espresso as the flavors sail on and on. Texture is beautifully polished, finishing with a subliminal spice note. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Gary Figgins, owner-winemaker of this oldest winery in the Walla Walla Valley, turned his winemaking hobby into a career in 1977 after years of amateur experimentation in is cellar. He is respected for being entirely self-educated in winemaking and having an obsessive attention to detail, going so far as to choose specific logs for his barrel staves years in advance. Despite his overwhelming success, total production of his Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, blends, and Riesling remains limited.
