($208) Subdued aromas of pear, citrus skin and spicy oak. Quite tightly wrapped, even a bit lean today, with a lemony flavor lifted by a strong floral element. Penetrating and closed; in a distinctly masculine style. Solidly structured and very long, with real grand cru reserve. Needs six to eight years of bottle aging.

I don't know whether it was storage or that the '00 Bienvenues just didn't turn out the way the cask sample suggested but this lacks the intensity, vibrancy and precision it displayed early in life. To be sure, the wine is perfectly pleasant but even in this format it lacks its usual lift and elegance. I have no other notes so I cannot say whether the lackluster showing compared to the usual high standards of this wine is due to the wine or this particular bottle.

Pretty white, with lemon, spices, chocolate, smoke and toasted oak aromas and flavors. Firm yet seductive, there is plenty to like in this solid white, although the finish is quite woody for now.

Produced from 45-year-old vines (the oldest of the estate), the 2000 Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet sports a sexy, tropical fruit-scented nose. This is an extravagant wine with a broad, hugely intense flavor profile, packed with spices, minerals, and toasted oak. It is exuberant, crammed with fruit, and long.

Beyond gorgeous despite a reductive nose. Opened beautifully over the course of a dinner. Simply delicious.

Drank with Allen Meadows. Classic burgundy juice with honeysuckle and sweet spices. If I get a chance for more.....take it.

"If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
