($216) Deeply pitched aromas of roasted grain, nut oil and clove. Big, rich and mouthfilling, with harmonious ripe acidity framing the peach and pear fruit flavors. Very dense and very long; the dusty finish seems almost tannic but retains lovely fruit and finesse.

Big, bold, full-bodied white, with grass, mango, honey, lime and butter complexity and lots of toasted oak. Good intensity and enough concentration to develop a long finish.

The 2000 Leflaive Bƒtard is evolving nicely and remains a very classy drink though interestingly, there is now noticeable oak framing the otherwise elegant and very pure ripe white flower and citrus-infused aromas. And there is plenty of sappy extract and thick, almost viscous, mouth coating flavors and fine length and lasts for several minutes - in particular, the texture and mouth feel of this wine are stunning. IN sum, this is a genuinely compelling effort that should benefit from a few more years in the cellar and indeed, this is sufficiently forward that it can already be approached with pleasure though it's clearly still on the way up.

The mineral and toast-scented 2000 Batard-Montrachet is broad, silky, and light to medium-bodied. A myriad of spices, minerals, and toasted white fruits can be discerned in this detailed wine's personality.

Tasted with Pat Dukes 2007. Rich, almost sappy mouthcoating flavors with lengthy finish...great breed. Try again in 2009.

"If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
