Changed hands in 1981 with only 20ha left of a large property.Still very deep with the merest hint of ruby and paleness at the rim. Very subtle nose - lures you in but there is no hint of overripeness here, rather a hidden message. Fresh and succulent with hints of tea and toast but very subtle ones. Really quite delicate and beautifully balanced. Neat, medium finish.Author: Jancis RobinsonInternational Wine Cellar | Rating: 90
Medium ruby. Blackberry, black cherry, toasty oak and musky espresso on the nose. Sweet, dense and pliant, with a layered texture and considerable early appeal. Lush but nicely delineated. Finishes with ripe tannins and lingering flavors of dark berries and espresso.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2001Wine Spectator | Rating: 91
Opulent red. Intense aromas of currants, cigar tobacco and berries. Full-bodied, with a solid core of silky tannins and a long finish. Well-made. 42,000 cases made.Author: James SucklingWine Advocate | Rating: 89
This is a nicely textured, plum/ruby-colored 2000 with a moderately intense bouquet of black fruits intermingled with licorice, vanilla, and plums. The wine is pure, elegant, medium-bodied, and stylish. While not a blockbuster, it is delicious, nicely structured, and accessible.Author: Robert Parker

Because it was so inviting, like the '89 I drank it too early. It was delicious before 2014, but now it is spectacular, just like the '89 became. Thankfully I still have some to enjoy. What an undervalued wine.Author: jwelch666Self | Rating: 4.5

Ridge component tasting with Brian & Brian. Tasted alongside '00 Ch. Montelena. Very nice.Author: RutigerSelf | Rating: 89
Shows Bordeaux typicity, earthy, harmonious. The only nit I would pick - and this is a small one - is it's a little stingy on the fruit, but I would suspect decanting for two or more hours would correct that. Appropriately priced at $54/bottle.Drink Dates: 2008-2016Author: PurpleTeethSelf | Rating: 94
wonderful wonderful wine. Actually is almost ready to drink.Author: Frank C888
Chateau Cantemerle is an Haut-Medoc property situated along the Route des Chateaux, just north of Bordeaux. It is classified as a 5eme Cru Classe. The history of the estate goes back to the 14th century, when it belonged to the powerful lords of Blanquefort. It has gone through many changes of ownership since that time. The vineyards include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine is widely considered an excellent value that could be upgraded to a Third Growth. The annual production for Cantemerle is 25,000 cases and 12,500 for its second wine, Les Allees des Cantemerle.
