($110) Good medium red. Complex aromas of dried fruits, leather, smoke and marzipan; less floral and more rustic than the 1999. But also sweeter and fatter in the mid-palate, with more tex ture and depth but less thrust than the '99. Offers a near-decadent sweetness that carries through on the back end, where the tannins are similarly sweet and broad. This was aged in four very old 25-hectoliter casks. According to Maria-Theresa, this wine was higher in dry extract than the '99.

From bottle, the 2000 Barolo has never been satisfying. I have gone through a number of bottles, mostly from my own cellar, and been consistently disappointed. As the wine has aged the ever present rustic bouquet has developed but not disappeared. Autumn leaves, mushrooms, dried cherries, tobacco and faded roses are some of the nuances that emerge from the glass. The unpolished qualities reappear on a finish marked by hard tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020.

Gorgeous, exotic nose, with plums, prunes, cedar and mushrooms. Full-bodied and hedonistic, with loads of ripe fruit and spices underneath. Long and velvety. This is magnificent. The maestro of classic Barolos pulls out all the stops.
Delicate & enticing bouquet of old rose petals, violet, and licorice. There is serious structure and exquisite balance with flavors of dried cherries, tobacco, leather, tar, and tell-tale truffle. Acidity and tannins are firmly braced by noble structure. Enjoy next 3 to 15 years

Excellent wine. Dried fig, golden raisin, and prune match the feet funk/barnyard on the nose. Frontal tannins are silky, but gripping. Sharp acidity but the wine still felt smooth. Long finish.

Very good, though not outstanding bottle of wine. I'd say there was absolutely nothing wrong with this bottle. Decanted for about 90+ minutes before pouring back in bottle for transport. Nose outstanding, wine complexity, medium, fruit very solid. Overall, very good drinker, but not a blow-away Barolo.
