($42; 15.2% alcohol) Impressive full ruby color. Knockout roasted aromas of raisiny red fruits, meat and truffle. A step up in concentration and sweetness from the regular bottling, with compellingly deep yet delineated flavors of red and black fruits, truffle and smoked meat. Offers almost freakish richness and density for the vintage, and the full gamut of Chateauneuf aromas. Finishes with big but thoroughly ripe tannins that reach the front teeth.

Brought up half in tank and half in foudre, the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul is a fabulously textured, elegant and expressive 1999 that has lots of spice-box, chocolate, smoked meats, tobacco and dark fruit aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, concentrated and rich, it's fully mature and drinking at point, but it should hold nicely going forward.

Dark-colored wine that's loaded with crisp fruit and mineral character. Full-bodied and vibrant, layered with cherry, blackberry, fresh plum and blood orange notes. Juicy finish. Give it time and it's going to be a pleasure.

Yikes, could this be the most under-rated wine of the vintage? What a drop dead gorgeous performance this 95% Grenache cuvee put forth last night! Strikingly pure, Elysium-esque scents of heavenly black forest cake, fig paste, black cherry liqueur and warm gingerbread caress the senses w/ the grace of a siren and the tender care of a nursing mother. The body of the wine is picture perfect in a sensually ethereal fashion, as intoxicating, plush layers of elixir cascade down the palate like a graceful Olympian. Although it really tastes nothing like it, I immediately remembered my experience tasting the 2005 La Conseillante at the UGC as this wine shares a similar visceral experience

Pierre Usseglio et Fils has been a family-run domaine since Francis Usseglio released his first vintage in 1949. Today, with brothers Jean-Pierre and Thierry Usseglio at the helm, Pierre and Fils has become one of the top producers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

The vineyards comprise 17 parcels over 23 hectares on some of the best terroir in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The wine is vinified traditionally using natural yeasts, low doses of sulfur, and is aged mostly in old oak foudres. The results are world class wines that are testament to Chateauneuf-du-Pape as one of the world's most famous terroirs.
