  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 90

Bright, full ruby. Outrageous, sauvage aromas of roasted red fruits, game, tar, woodsmoke, minerals and truffle. Fat, sweet and thick, but with uncanny inner-mouth aromatics for such a large-scaled young wine. A bit unrefined, but this delivers a major mouthful of black raspberry fruit and smoky French oak. Finishes with big, chewy tannins and a surprisingly firm shape.

    Issue: September/October 2001
  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 93

Dense, rich and distinctive, packing delicious cherry, raspberry, herb and exotic spice flavors that keep glowing on the round finish. Yummy already, but the tannins can use time or a juicy roast.

  • Owen Roe, named after a 17th century Irish patriot who dedicated his life to political equality and freedom, is owned and run by Jerry Owen and David O'Reilly (winemaker). Their aim is to source only the very best fruit from top sites in Oregon and Washington, handle it gently in the winery, and produce wines of superior balance and quality. O'Reilly is meticulous in his attention to detail from the vineyard to the bottle, and his hard work and dedication show through in the final products.
