Big, almost masculine in style with intense, slightly exotic fruit of peach, apricot, petroleum and pineapple notes that introduce broad, generous, rich flavors. This is already fairly forward and supple and the mouthwateringly intense acids seem exceptionally ripe. The finish is both persistent and remarkably long and while it will continue to age with no trouble, it's already approachable if not quite peaking. In sum, this is certainly a lovely effort but I wouldn't rank among the very finest vintages of Leflaive's Combettes. Multiple and consistent notes.Author: Allen MeadowsInternational Wine Cellar | Rating: 91
Peach, pear and nuts on the nose. Rather powerful in the mouth, with strong acidity and a bit of alcohol showing. But dry and classic, like the rest of these '99s. Still youthfully disjointed and in need of patience.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: September/October 2001Wine Advocate | Rating: 89
The candied apple-scented 1999 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes is rich, broad, plump, and satin-textured. This deep, medium-bodied wine offers loads of white fruit and floral flavors.Author: Pierre RovaniWine Spectator | Rating: 95
With a hint of green to the color, this displays freshness and vigor. Lemon, hazelnut, vanilla and intense mineral aromas and flavors come together with vibrant structure and supple texture. Wonderful elegance, finesse and sense of place. Terrific length. 100 cases imported.Author: Bruce Sanderson
"If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
