1999 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru
FRANCE / BURGUNDY / VOLNAY
Burghound | Rating: 92
Big, robust and expressive with a generous black pinot fruit nose and rich, full-bodied, relatively powerful and intense flavors that offer excellent buffering sap for the ripe, firm tannins plus outstanding length. This is really quite good with excellent balance and while it can be enjoyed now, it's built for the long haul. Consistent notes.Author: Allen MeadowsWine Advocate | Rating: 90
There are two bottlings of the 1999 Volnay Champans. The one for the United States market was produced from the estate's oldest vines (40 years old) in its Champans parcel, and it was not filtered prior to bottling. It exhibits blackberries, cherries, and stones in its mouth-watering nose. This lush, expansive, medium to full-bodied wine is crammed with plums, black cherries, blueberries, and floral flavors. It is tangy, juicy, and has a long yet highly structured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012.Author: Pierre Rovani
