($154) Bright red-ruby. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of redcurrant, cherry, gunflint, pepper and minerals, along with subtle floral and earth notes. Wonderfully precise in the mouth, with captivating flavors of raspberry, minerals and blood orange, lifted by a lovely floral perfume. Finishes very subtle and very long, with a whiplash of flavor and superb grip. Very classy juice.

Black cherry and clove notes highlight this crisp, elegant '99 red Burgundy. It picks up a plum nuance on the palate and ends with a finely woven tannins.

Quite closed but fabulously intense fruit oozing with black fruit, anise, clove and spicy aromatics. This too is not huge but rather a wine of measure and balance with an intensity of delivery and length that is special indeed. Magnificent complexity, superb flavor detail and a penetrating minerality that culminates in a finish that lasts for minutes. As I commented in the Musigny vertical report, the Drouhin Musigny is a seriously underrated wine and all of the immense potential the '99 displayed in cask has been captured here. It would not surprise me if my score was ultimately found to be overly conservative as the picture perfect balance should permit this to age for 30 years or more.
