($55) Full red-ruby. Deep, superripe aromas of sappy raspberry, strawberry, woodsmoke and pepper. Superconcentrated, full and deep, but just short of heavy. A very dense, mouthfilling pinot noir finishing with big, sweet tannins, smoky oak and excellent length.

  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 91

Bold, ripe and rich, with full-blown plum, black cherry, blackberry and raspberry jam notes, holding a tight focus and revealing layers of richness and depth.

The 1999 Pinot Noir River Block, picked at 27o brix, displays no late harvest characteristics, but abundant glycerin as well as copious quantities of black cherry liqueur intermixed with floral, smoke, and earth characteristics. The texture is terrific, and the wine pure and well-balanced. Sadly, there are only 150 cases.

initial funk. Funk was almost gone after 4 hour decant. Over-riped. Pretty rough. Very disappointing wine.

With three generations of dedication to the land, Rochioli Vineyards and Winery has earned the reputation as one of Sonoma County's finest. This family legacy began in 1938, when Joe Rochioli Sr. purchased land he had long farmed. He had the foresight to know that the soil of the Russian River Valley would one day produce some of the world's greatest wines. His son Joe Jr. embraced this vision and today craft renowned, terrior-driven wines built on a foundation of superb fruit.

The result has been a decades-long tradition of outstanding vintages: Silky-smooth, fruit-forward Pinot Noirs; rich, opulent Chardonnays; and tangy, food-friendly Sauvignon Blancs.
