($79) Full, bright, saturated medium ruby. Knockout nose of black fruits, minerals, espresso, roasted meat, licorice, violet pastille and menthol. Huge but utterly lively and suave. A sappy, perfumed wine of great intensity and inner-mouth lift. Very complex and perfectly balanced. Vibrant finish features smooth, toothcoating tannins and superb persistence. Les Saint-Georges of grand cru quality.

Seductive, with sweet fruit, supple tannins, smoke, tar, iron character, with cocoa powder aromas on the finish. Real terroir-structured Pinot that is packed to the brim with character. Long finish. 100 cases imported.

The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Nuits-St.-Georges Les St.-Georges has blackberry, currant, and rosemary aromas. Rich, ample, and firm, it is a cherry, blackberry, and raspberry-flavored wine. This medium-bodied offering has loads of fruit that envelop its firmly tannic structure.

Very deep crimson and postively agricultural nose! Supple texture. For the moment distinctly stodgy and old-fashioned but undeniably serious. Needs time - lots of it. So thick you feel you could slice it with a knife.

Elegance personified with intensely spicy red and black fruit, anise and a hint of oak with mouth coating pungent fruit and earth flavors. The mouth feel here is extraordinary with fine tannins and superb length. This has enormous potential and is one of the finest Les St.-Georges I have ever tasted from Domaine Gouges.

  • Founded by Henri Gouges, this domaine was subsequently developed by his two sons, Michel and Marcel. For the last few years, Pierre and Christian, the grandsons, have carried on the traditions of the estate. Pierre has a passionate interest in the care of the vines and Christian oversees winemaking. Uncompromising about quality and respectful of the typicity of the different vintages, he bottles after 18 months aging in oak-barrels, using a maximum of 20% new oak in the final blending.
