($100) Full red-ruby. Brooding, reticent nose combines briary red berries, espresso and herbs. Penetrating, pure and powerful; thick with extract. Classic backward Bonnes-Mares, with the sheer material and backbone to age for many years. Like the Amoureuses, this is wonderfully concentrated wine.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: March/April 2002Wine Spectator | Rating: 94
Blockbuster Pinot that remains elegant. Thick in texture, black in color, it delivers much character--earth, red berry and ripe-tasting blackberry, spices--in a blend both modern and traditional. So clean, so pure, so attractive.Author: Per-Henrik ManssonJancis Robinson | Rating: 18
Extremely deep, purplish crimson. Thick, youthful, concentrated fruit but for the moment extremely unevolved. Broad, ripe but unformed. All packed in there but this needs a lot of time.Author: Jancis RobinsonWine Advocate | Rating: 94
The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Bonnes Mares has a rose and black cherry-scented nose. Medium to full-bodied, rich, broad, and expansive, this is a firm, muscular, masculine wine. Its flavor profile, composed of blackberries, assorted flowers, jammy blueberries, and candied cherries, is silky-textured and leads to a long, black pepper-filled finish.Author: Pierre RovaniBurghound | Rating: 95
The nose is still showing incredibly ripe (but not roasted) intense blueberry, blackberry and cassis aromas with concentrated, powerful, intense and gorgeously sappy flavors that just explode on the palate supported by mouth coating tannins, exquisite balance and that certain |presence| that all great wines have. A Bonnes Mares that will age and improve for a long, long time and it's clear that this is flat out superb juice that has that 'wow' factor. While I still slightly prefer the stylistic purity of the '02, the '99 is certainly showier and the underlying material is every bit as good.Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 2nd Quarter, 2007

Vertical Tasting of 18 Roumier Bonnes Mares from Steven Tanzers Cellar with Steve, sponsored by Acker Merrill at Toqueville. Ripe and clearly destined for greatness. Still very young and close, although the nose shows ripe, vibrant berries and promises of things to comeDrink Dates: 2015Author: Ricknat1
Georges Roumier married his way into some of the best vineyard holdings in the Cote d'Or, back in 1924. He gained a wife from Chambolle and the vineyards as part of the dowry. Grand Cru blocks in Bonnes-Mares, Clos de Vougeot, Musigny, and Corton Charlemagne produce highly sought-after wines year after year. Christophe Roumier, Georges' son, has run the domaine since 1982, when he took over management of his family's 14.2 hectares of vines. He is regarded as one of the finest winemakers in the Cote de Nuit, one who strives to create authentic representations of each of his diverse plots.
