($150) Bright ruby-red. Sexy nose combines maraschino cherry, roast coffee, bitter chocolate and lively oak spices not apparent in the foregoing wines. Full, sweet and chewy in the mouth, with a silky, layered texture to buffer the wine sound acidity. Cherry and black raspberry flavors are nicely sweetened by the wine's new oak. Features a long, gripping whiplash of a finish and fine tannins that coat the entire palate.

Dark crimson. Looks much more youthful than some younger vintages. Macerated cherries and some sweetness. Pretty concentrated. I'd say just in a rather surly stage of development. Wait awhile. Second bottle livelier and richer with a slightly smoother texture.

The dark ruby-colored 1999 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques has exuberant, sweet, blackberry fruit aromas. This medium to full-bodied wine has amplitude to its mouth-coating , black cherry, oak, and cassis liqueur flavors. It is velvety-textured, lively, and boisterous.

Intense, juicy, and bright strawberry pinot aromas give way to a solid, muscular wine with great balance. Some complexity on finish with considerable airing. Beautiful wine with a great future, drinkable now but should unwind to show even more in 2-3 years

More succulent and flavourful since last bottle but not profound.

Founded just over 100 years ago, Domaine Armand Rousseau is a family-run winery considered to be among the best in Burgundy. Rousseau owns some of the most prestigious plots in Gevrey-Chambertin, and the resulting wines present the perfect distillation of the time-honored traditional methods of winemaking in Burgundy. The formula is simple—superb vineyards plus old vines plus low yields. This translates into wines of outstanding concentration that achieve a Burgundian balance of essential elegance and striking purity.
