($212) Deep ruby-red. Cool, reserved, extremely pure aromas of wild berries, gunflint, coffee and minerals. Dense and penetrating, with a tight core of liqueur-like cherry and small red berries. Far less expressive today than the Clos de Beze; more streamlined and closed in on itself. But this extremely young Chambertin is a wine of great class. Finishes with subtle, palate-staining length and aristocratic tannins. I would not be at all surprised if this surpassed the Clos de Beze 10 or 12 years down the road, but today the sweetness and exotic character of the Clos de Beze are utterly enchanting.

Fantastically complex with super dense, concentrated fruit blended with an incredible array of spices and flavors that have really beautiful depth, complexity and length. This is not a particularly huge wine but the sheer complexity and class combine to create a simply knock out Chambertin, worthy of every accolade reserved for the very best in Burgundy. Really lovely stuff in a forward style though this will be capable of aging for years.

Produced from 45-year-old vines, the 1999 Chambertin is medium to dark ruby-colored. It has super-ripe, talcum, and blackberry aromas that lead to a medium to full-bodied wine of outstanding depth. Loads of oak-laced black fruits can be found throughout its zesty, firm character.

Quite dark crimson - very healthy looking. Quite intense and like jewelly cough medicine. Hint of violets. Round and deep crimson. Some sweetness and then lots of sinew. Mushrooms and gentleness. Really rich.

Stupidly good wine. Keeps getting better.

Founded just over 100 years ago, Domaine Armand Rousseau is a family-run winery considered to be among the best in Burgundy. Rousseau owns some of the most prestigious plots in Gevrey-Chambertin, and the resulting wines present the perfect distillation of the time-honored traditional methods of winemaking in Burgundy. The formula is simple—superb vineyards plus old vines plus low yields. This translates into wines of outstanding concentration that achieve a Burgundian balance of essential elegance and striking purity.
