Red-ruby. Black cherry, flowers, iron and mint on the nose. Supple on entry, then less sweet in the middle than the proprietary blend; more backward and dominated by its structure. Light notes of meat and tobacco. Clings nicely on the back end, which offers notes of tobacco and black licorice. A sample of the petit verdot component of the '99 bottling showed more fully expressed, riper, more floral black fruit flavors, firm acidity and excellent length. Viader may yet add a pinch of this stuff to the cabernet blend |to add weight to the middle.|

This restrained 1998 (a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Cabernet Franc) recalls a Medoc claret. The wine unfolds gracefully on the palate to reveal flavors of black currants, tar, earth, creamy vanillin, and subtle oak. A medium to full-bodied, stylish, elegant red that requires some introspection, this impressive offering can be drunk now as well as over the next 12-15 years.

Very nice, very smooth and opened up over thirty minutes to an amazing bottle of wine.

VIADER is a leading Napa Valley winery estate established in 1986 by Delia Viader, and recognized for consistently producing high quality red wines. The estate is located 1200 feet above the Napa Valley floor just north-east of St. Helena on the steep, rocky slopes of Howell Mountain.

Since its inaugural vintage in 1989, the VIADER Proprietary blend has featured Cabernet Sauvignon with a significant component of Cabernet Franc. The second lable "V" is exclusively Petit Verdot. The estate VIADER Syrah is a blend of Barossa and Hermitage clones. DARE by Viader focuses on single varieties from select vineyards in the Napa Valley blended with their estate fruit. DARE Cabernet Sauvignon features fruit sourced from Lewelling Vineyards in St. Helena. DARE Cabernet Franc uses fruit from Stagecoach Vineyards in Oakville. DARE Tempranillo is made from a Ribera del Duero clonal selection sourced from the northeast side of the Napa Valley. VIADER also produces a very limited amount of Cabernet-based dry DARE Rose.
