  • Jancis Robinson | Rating: 18

Deep crimson with rusting rim. Delia Viader pointed out that especially strict selection was needed in this difficult-to-ripen, over-criticised year. Aromatic, mineral-laden ? you can almost smell the stones that apparently had to be moved to make way for the vines. Neither too thick nor too alcoholic. Very lively, racy and dancing. Complete and neat. Very long.

  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 95

Extraordinarily rich, deep, complex and concentrated, yet remarkably elegant and graceful, this deft red blend reveals layers of exotic spice, black cherry, currant, coffee, tobacco and cedary notes ending in a long, complex aftertaste. 3,500 cases made.

Medium red. Mellow aromas of plum and woodsmoke. Supple and plummy in the mouth, with subtle notes of chocolate and tobacco. A fairly approachable wine already, finishing with ripe tannins and good length. This shows virtually none of the leafy character it displayed shortly after the bottling last July.

This restrained 1998 (a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Cabernet Franc) recalls a Medoc claret. The wine unfolds gracefully on the palate to reveal flavors of black currants, tar, earth, creamy vanillin, and subtle oak. A medium to full-bodied, stylish, elegant red that requires some introspection, this impressive offering can be drunk now as well as over the next 12-15 years.

  • VIADER is a leading Napa Valley winery estate established in 1986 by Delia Viader, and recognized for consistently producing high quality red wines. The estate is located 1200 feet above the Napa Valley floor just north-east of St. Helena on the steep, rocky slopes of Howell Mountain.

Since its inaugural vintage in 1989, the VIADER Proprietary blend has featured Cabernet Sauvignon with a significant component of Cabernet Franc. The second lable "V" is exclusively Petit Verdot. The estate VIADER Syrah is a blend of Barossa and Hermitage clones. DARE by Viader focuses on single varieties from select vineyards in the Napa Valley blended with their estate fruit. DARE Cabernet Sauvignon features fruit sourced from Lewelling Vineyards in St. Helena. DARE Cabernet Franc uses fruit from Stagecoach Vineyards in Oakville. DARE Tempranillo is made from a Ribera del Duero clonal selection sourced from the northeast side of the Napa Valley. VIADER also produces a very limited amount of Cabernet-based dry DARE Rose.
