  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 86

Red-ruby. Cherry, apple skin and toasty, vanillin oak on the nose. Juicy, supple, moderately fleshy flavors of currant and plum show attractive sweetness and freshness. Fairly persistent finish features dusty tannins, high-toned oak and an herbaceous dill element.

  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 85

Smoky, with dried-herb, olive and cedary flavors, turning crisp and tannic, overriding the modest plum and currant flavors. Drink now through 2005. 23,757 cases made.

Supple and harmonious, especially for the year, with a complex array of herb, currant, black cherry, earth and cedar, picking up a touch of anise and sage on the finish, where the tannins are firm and dry, yet richly fruity. 2,909 cases made.

This was surprisingly lively. Plenty of fruit and well balanced tannins. Raspberry and blackberry, some red currant. Cedar and a bit of leather. Not too l;ate to drink at all.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is one of Napa Valley's most established and respected producers. The winery was founded by Warren Winiarski and his family in 1970 and it is best known for estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons - CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY. Over the years, the wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide. They are fashioned to express classic elegance, structure, and ageability, and to reflect the place in which they are grown.
