1998 Paolo Scavino Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata
ITALY / PIEDMONT /
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 95
(still in barrel) Saturated deep red. Superripe, liqueur-like nose hints at dried flowers and mocha. Huge, velvety and quite powerful, but still youthfully unevolved. Hints of brown spices and dried flowers. Best today on the explosively long finish, which features strong but well-buffered tannins. A great '98.Author: Stephen TanzerWine Spectator | Rating: 92
Seductive and multilayered with cinnamon and fruit aromas with hints of figs. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long aftertaste of dates and figs. Slightly more in the midpalate would make it even better, but very pretty indeed. 250 cases made.Author: James SucklingWine Advocate | Rating: 93
The 1998 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell Annunziata is the best of the series, very complete in its presentation of the classic range of anisette, rose petal, iris, and red fruit sensations, ample, round, and fresh in flavor, minty and lingering on the close, caressing but solid in texture. It will last another dozen years.Author: Daniel Thomases
Established in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto, one of the historic Langhe townships, this estate is now entering its third generation of Barolo production. With a historic connection to the land at the forefront of the winemaking philosophy, this estate creates exceptional Barolos, Barberas, and Dolcettos. The Bric del Fiasc Barolo is the hallmark of the family's production, from a vineyard that always produced the best Nebbiolo fruit. In 1978, this fruit was vinified on its own for the first time and it has remained a special bottling ever since.
