1998 Olivier Leflaive (Maison) Puligny-Montrachet Champs Gains 1er Cru
FRANCE / BURGUNDY / PULIGNY-MONTRACHET
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 90
Ripe aromas of butter, nut oil, oak char and white fruits, plus a faint leesy nuance. Steely and reserved; still holding a lot of gas today and thus comes across as rather dry. Stylish and fresh, though, with sound acidity.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: September/October 1999Rating: 88
Trace of oak showing with distinct Puligny breed and rigor. Quite reserved on the nose with both minerals and citrus notes followed by medium weight, sinewy flavors and quality length. This could use a bit more flesh for its structure though this is quite lovely in a restrained, pure style.Issue: 3rd Quarter, 2001
In 1984, Olivier Leflaive decided to create a new vision for the wines of Burgundy with the help of his brother Patrick and his Uncle Vincent. He had one ambitious objective in mind - to apply their collective knowledge to the vinification of the best vineyards in Burgundy. Although Leflaive purchases fruit from many different vineyards, he is involved in many of the growing decisions.
