A strong effort from Clos Fourtet, the dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 offers pure blackberry and cherry aromas with subtle wood and licorice in the background. Medium-bodied, exceptionally pure, with low acidity as well as silky tannin, this sexy offering is ideal for drinking now and over the next 14-15 years.Author: Robert ParkerInternational Wine Cellar | Rating: 88
Bright red-ruby. Highly perfumed nose combines cherry, raspberry, currant and nutmeg. Dense and silky but also bright and nicely delineated; mint and spice notes contribute to its juicy quality. Finishes with slightly dry but even tannins and very good persistence.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2001Wine Spectator | Rating: 92
Gorgeous violet, mineral, tobacco and berry character. Full-bodied, with extremely well-integrated tannins, a very silky mouthfeel and a long finish.Author: James Suckling

Mature, but slightly diluted. Disappointing for a 1998 right banker.Author: BCBSelf | Rating: 93
One of my favourite Bordeauxs. Bought 3 bottles of the '98 vintage. 1st bottle was druken about 5 months ago and we struggled with the tannins. This is the 2nd time trying this wine. Beautiful but a little closed nose on opening; decantered for 1 hour and it really opened up and gave us a real treat on the nose. Toasty notes, vanilla, oak , cassis, dark cherries, earthy; unrestrained fruit, depth, medium finish, lovely balance, tannins a little harsh at first but soften out with time. I'm glad I have another bottle of this wine.Drink Dates: 2012-2022Author: vince389
