1997 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Altero

Big, blockbuster of a wine, yet soft. Terrific aromas of violets, plums and jam. Full-bodied and very rich, with masses of ripe fruit and round, velvety tannins. Lasts for minutes on the palate. 1,105 cases made.Author: James SucklingJancis Robinson | Rating: 17
Ruby with a thick, pale rim. Quite low-key nose with some autumnal notes, but a bit smudgy. Definite alcohol there. Slightly simpler than most. Surprisingly open. Very slightly rustic. Big and bloody.Author: Jancis RobinsonWine Advocate | Rating: 89
The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Altero exhibits a saturated dark ruby/purple color in addition to a sweet nose of ripe black cherry fruit intermixed with leather, spice box, and weedy tobacco. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with noticeable new oak, it has the potential to merit 90 points, but at present it is a bit angular and austere.Author: Robert Parker

Chocolate -- earthy yet nice cherry fruit brunello. As expected, long finish and perfectly balanced. So excited I have another bottle.Author: JulesSelf | Rating: 89
Tasted in 1/2008. Redish-amber color with brickish edge.Lovely nose of ripe cassis, touch of spicey wood, cinamon. Just starting to turn south but a lovely wine that goes with a lighter style Italian dish. Drink up but still enjoy.Drink Dates: 2008-2012Author: Reed D
