Grows on you. Rich and earthy, with complex herb, currant, sage and cedary oak notes, all folding together nicely and finishing in a concentrated aftertaste. 15,400 cases made.

Drank the 97 Groth Napa and the 6-8-9 Meritage during poker night. The 6-8-9, was great, soft with a combination on Fruit and earth tones. The finish was silky. This is an excellent value. The Groth was surprisingly good, still good fruit but the finish was short lived. Color has held up and the body was a little light for a cab.

Somewhat disappointing based on memories of a previous tasting. Tart and astringent which overwhelms the fading fruit. Has some claret features of cedar and leather.

Groth is a solid and respected member of the legendary cadre that is classic Napa Cabernet. The original vineyard that owners Dennis and Judy Groth purchased in 1981 was planted by the founders of Silver Oak - Justin Meyer and Ray Duncan - and is in the heart of prime Cabernet Sauvignon land in the Oakville appellation. Groth also produces Napa Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.
