($120) Light gold color. Deep, rich and toasty on the nose, with suggestions of earthy truffle, cocoa and candied apple. This is really classic Bollinger in style. Rich, broad and thick, with weighty poached pear and buttered toast flavors that linger on the finish with real authority. Fans of the house style will adore this.

Fine depth and complexity in both aromas and flavors. Citrus, ginger, vanilla, whole-grain bread and nut elements combine for a harmonious presentation. Full-bodied, yet sophisticated and lively. A long, luxurious finish.

The most youthful wine at this tasting and, on the basis of the delicious 1995 and other mature vintages of Bollinger I have to give them the benefit of the doubt that this wine will eventually become a swan and that my score is ludicrously ungenerous. Lively bead. Very 'unmarried' nose - even harsh and still very malic on the palate. Chewy finish. Wait!

Good, everyone seemed to like it. Hard for me to say as I do not drink much Bollinger.

Bollinger is considered one the top Champagne houses. Originally founded in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger and Paul Renaudin, it has been the purveyor to the British Court since 1884, as well as several other European kingdoms. Bollinger has a classic, full-bodied style that reflects its Pinot-dominated cuv‹¨«es. This house is known for its muscular champagnes and R.D. cuv‹¨«es, which are kept for approximately ten years on their yeast lees.
